Ironic that a city with a population of over 70% Chinese would have a district called Chinatown, no? It had just finished raining (make that a tropical downpour complete with lightning and thunder) when we got here so, like Little India that morning, it was not overly crowded. It was brightly lit and filled with vendors, one of which was a tailor who wanted to make a suit for Jim. He hauled us into his shop to show us pictures of himself with Bill Clinton and Donald Rumsfeld dressed in suits presumably made by said tailor (seriously, because doesn't everyone want to dress like Donald Rumsfeld?). We kindly declined but took his card.
This is the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple - Singapore, or BTRTS. It was just finished in 2007 and is an impressive structure. It's hard to imagine the work that went into this place. We were there just as they were shutting up for the evening so it was dark and hard to get a good picture so here is a link to a youtube video that gives a better idea of the true scale of the place.
